A New Comedy Channel

If you switch to Direct TV you will go through an adjustment period and find they have more than the one comedy channel carried by cables and Dish TV. It is called “Planet Green.”

The first program we saw featured an enormous Bronx nightclub bouncer and a tall black lady DJ from the same club. They were recruited to spend a month living in a Missouri, “off the grid,” environmentalist enclave. They were not a couple so we thought the piece would be an “It Happened One Night” rip, but no such chliche. It was more interesting.

“Dancing Rabbits Farm” is run by a vegan group including Peewee Herman look-alike guys and corn-belt big strong girls. They re-use everything. These folks are into every disgusting aspect of environmentalism down to defecating into old five gallon paint cans and processing it for fertilizer. They also process cooking oil that looks like “a bucket of snot” in the words of DJ Girl who is naturally funny and is assigned to run the filter system. But, DJ Girl is no-nonsense and has an angry glance that could drop a sparrow in flight at 20 paces.

Bouncer Guy could not abide the vegan diet. He found an air gun and killed several of the “dancing rabbits” cooking and eating them to the utter disgust and dismay of the vegans. Meetings were held to discuss what to do with this savage who could mop the room with three of them at a time. The discussions are worthy of a South Park "Smug" episode and they only did a lot of "sharing." It was one of the comedic highlights.

In fun exchanges with the environmentlists DJ Girl has difficulty eating vegetables that have been fertilized with human excrement. The vegan's "Save the planet" pitch is just not cutting it and she gives one-liners like Star Parker on steroids in a Gatling gun delivery. This lady is a natural comedienne and the vegans have no sense of humor which makes her rim shots even funnier. Their stunned expressions are priceless and reveal they are not very smart as DJ Girl's one liners should get her a Friars Club membership.

The outcome is that both Bouncer Guy and DJ Girl see how they can conserve and go away feeling they've learned something and are more appreciate living in an energy rich, modern environment. The Dancing Rabbits Farm folks learned nothing and Bouncer Guy ate the dancing rabbits chorus line. We wonder what they'll call the farm now. "Dancing Rabbits Memorial Garden?" Maybe they'll burn some candles and make Tofu offerings. "Green" folks have strange enjoys.

Direct TV has a winner in Planet Green. It is a new comedy channel.
