Wells of Socialism

 

When you hear a politician or celebrity on TV begin his, or her, remarks with "So" you are listening to a liberal.  A person who believes white people should apologize for "white privilege" every day and the government should print money with abandon plus an unending list of concessions, confessions and apologies.  It is amazing how a single invented word can become an identifier with people who have such biases: They are the "Woke" generation. 

I have long felt the nation was suffering liberal bias with beliefs that make no sense. In my first encounter with a flaming liberal authority figure came in my first college level "social science" course.  I do not remember his name, but he was an east coast Jewish guy, liberal "through-and-through," as my grandfather would say.

The guy was an excellent lecturer, full of information, all left and of some question in my analysis.  All dramatically presented and utterly fascinating to the 30 18 year-olds in the room.  He was the most dramatic presenter of all the teachers I had up to that point and I believe more typical than not for the flock of liberal professors.  He had it down all the way to the swagger in his walk.  

This guy was "the whole package" and I took some of his techniques into my teaching.  In my last high school, Fairfax High School in the Los Angeles City Schools System, I was one of five "performing" teachers in that school.  We went into the classroom to "sell it."  And, it works as our TV culture shows.  We have become a half-liberal nation due more to what has been going on in our schools, especially the colleges, and liberals have gained enough power to be dangerous.

The core of this is found in the Faculty Lounge where teachers wail about being downtrodden when they are actually smarter than all the people who are paid so much more!

The leading Democrats and RINOs (Republican In Name Only) are likely the most corrupt of our Congress.  While they may come to DC to do good work they soon find that success is predicated on "playing the game," taking bribes, stashing money in offshore number accounts and getting more and more corrupt every session.  

Getting elected costs millions of Dollars and to get them you have to kiss the right rings, back the right bills, write the right amendments and not vote for anything or any one on the wrong side of the elected ruling class.

The election of Donald J. Trump threatened all established traditions and systems that had worked so well making the elected ruling class very wealthy.  The only problem is that they have to hide their ill-gotten gains in offshore bank accounts which may be in jeopardy as they can no longer hide money in safe Switzerland. They now take chances with one of the 119 remain number account allowing nations. Some are more corrupt than many of our Congresspersons.

Meanwhile, back in my classroom, I sought to bring scientists to life in my classrooms and "sell" chemistry rather in the manner of my old social science professor who was using dramatic techniques to sell socialism.  He capped his act one day when a student brought up the national budget and expressed alarm as it was then approaching "a trillion Dollars." (gasp!)  Today it is 30 times that and rising!

The young man said, "How are we ever going to pay that back?"  The young professor seemed offended and spat back, "Money!  Money? If we need more money:  Print it!  Just print it!"   I was shocked into reality! He had avoided the simple fact that money has to stand for something or it has no value and is fictitious! Worth zero!  A very dangerous, collapsible situation.  I realized that is where we have been since 1945, the end of WWII.

I realized my entertaining Social Studies professor was insane and my respect for him vanished into conservatism which did not fix in my mind until President John F. Kennedy, for whom I had voted, said in his inaugural, "We choose to go to the moon not because it is easy, but because it is hard."  I knew there we no reason to go to the moon, other than as a grandstanding stunt as everything there is under our feet, save He3, an isotope of Helium which we can make here a lot cheaper than digging up Moon rocks, bringing them back and cooking  He3 out for the fusion reactors we have not yet perfected.

I regret that I did not give that professor some flack, but I had already learned people with unsupportable ideas are easily insulted and when they are giving you a grade you don't challenge them.  That is the mechanism that has allowed our colleges to become wells of socialism.
