Defining Mr. Trump

 

The following is a piece I published on FaceBook a long time ago and on re-reading I see it is more relevant now than then and think you will appreciate it:

"A most unlikely set of circumstances has given us a most unusual President-elect; a man some have said the DC establishment would shoot before letting him serve. Very unlikely given the protection he is under now and will be for his tenure in the simultaneously best and worst job in the world where he is virtually a prisoner in the White House palace.

 

Mr. Trump is on call 24/7/365.25, writing history on the raging water of what is now American journalism denying responsibility for the obligations and freedoms guaranteed to it by our Constitution includes. These arrogant men and women who think they are “the smartest people in the world,” have no appreciation for the free market that has a near-infinite collective intelligence.

 

They are now wailing the Electoral College system is undemocratic, not realizing it brought “democracy” to small states in Presidential elections by forcing the bigger, more populous states to pay attention to them. It was the key to the formation of our republic, which is not a “Democracy” subject to the whims of a consistently corrupt political party that can find critical power in lies.

 

The Electoral College is the “glue” that literally holds our republic together. Without it, the smaller states would get the short end of every economic law of the states they were literally feeding. They would soon split off and let the free market bring them economic justice, but those calling themselves “Democrats” never admit to that reality.

 

Major media are dying before us in slow, lingering deaths painful to watch as their circulations and audiences drop up to 20% per year in a death spiral they deny, but cannot escape. The New York Times published a weak “mea culpa” 11.12.16, perhaps in an attempt to recover reader confidence. They only documented their defects and their subscriber base shrank again.

 

Who is this man, taking a huge pay cut to serve the people at great personal expense? Is it for power or a way to make a real difference in a country he loves, now more than ever? He appeared to be profoundly affected in his meeting with Mr. Obama. He appeared to be wondering, “What have I done?” But, he will do it. And, do it well.

 

Mr. Trump is much more like the men who founded this country than anyone we have had in the Presidency. His experience is not in government, but business. When he sits at the head of the table, he knows he is not the smartest man in the room. He gathers specialists who know more than he does in specific areas. He listens and has learned to pick honest, sincere men over those who are not. Our recent Presidents, coming from privilege or Affirmative Action, which is much the same thing, have believed they were the smartest men in the room because that is what they were told all their lives.

 

Mr. Trump has analyzed our economy and realizes we cannot import cheap goods and export our jobs without an era of reckoning of the kind we are in now. When it starts the manufacturing and merchandising, classes make billions as their cost of goods drops, but when the jobs go through collapse of the local industries or export thereof, their markets fail. That is the phase we are in now and the cure is simple:

 

Before 1913 America did not have personal income taxes, save a temporary one during the Civil War, which was dropped when the hostilities ended. The entire Federal government income came from import and export duties, usually about 20%. That accomplished two things: The elected ruling class was focused on controlling foreign trade and protecting our economy. They were not focused on fleecing the people with emotional appeals such that they would be eager to pay higher taxes.

 

“Climate Change” is a case in point. Not only are we asked to pay higher taxes, but 20 times as much for our energy. Believe it, I have done the math.  Given complete conversion to “sustainable” power, the typical home monthly electric bill will be $1,000 to $2,000 a month! And, we are now finding the lithium ion batteries required for automobiles are incendiary bombs in a serious crash or rollover. If these cells are outlawed for automotive use, as they certainly will be after a few horrible accidents, our cars will have a 30 to 50 mile range and an eight to ten hour recharge times.

 

The point of this is that Mr. Trump is a man, who unlike the usual politician, is used to listening, good at sorting out personalities and detecting motivations. He makes decisions on the merits of the realities and not the politics.

Since the writing of this piece my conclusions have changed only slightly and where I first hesitated to include the idea of corruption I now see it as a more important element of our decline and will be writing on it extensively soon.
