Liberalitus: Terminal Disease?

Talk radio has become a powerful medium as people can discuss matters of importance in ways that excite public interest and action. This is the story of one call to a local talk show, but it is of sufficient importance that I think you should both consider the text and hear the call.  On background:

The critical divide between liberalism and conservatism is economics, "the dismal science" which is neither dismal nor science, but the essence of it remains well out of the public mind, we suspect by the wishes of the ruling class be they royal, elected or despotic as the truths in economics are dis-empowering of the ruling class.

All power is corrupting and the only way to reduce corruption is to change players frequently.  We should be as fickle in our rulers as we are with entertainers, sports heroes and scoundrels. We change these three classes regularly, but keep our politicians in place long after their "sell by" dates expire.  "Flush this toilet!"

I recently had an illuminating on-air conversation with a local talk show host discussing what to do about our homeless people.  This gentleman, Herb Gura, is an intelligent, educated, local businessman, but a terminal liberal.

In my usual mouse-trap call-in I said the answer is more jobs for the homeless and the way to that was to have more rich people! You could feel the earth move as listeners pounded on radios, walls and more.  Northern California is liberal country!

Herb's main points were:  (1)  Rich people hoard money, (2)  Rich people do not invest, (3)  Rich people invest in things that do not create jobs.  "They invest in paper!"  (4)  The stock market does not create jobs, "...they only invest in paper."  (5)  "If you invest in Safeway stock that does not create jobs.  If you build a supermarket that creates jobs!" (6)  "There's only so much money to go around," a "zero sum game." (7)  "To have more rich people you have to have more poor people!"

Herb's ideas are probably as well defined and expressed as any you will find in any liberal as he is smarter, better-educated and more experienced that most we see protesting Mr. Trump today.  But, he expresses what they think very well.

My version is that it is the potential a man has to get rich that drives men to dreams that become innovative successful businesses that expand the economy for all and make rich people who then have money to invest in new enterprises. These are people who think expansively. I have personally known several who have done exactly that and continued to all their lives. The most expansive things they did were to fund the dreams of other men.  Nothing turns these guys on like helping a dream come true. The process is like that of a growing tree.  It expands exponentially.
