The Inspiration Acacia
The Daily Caller reports
biologists Andrew Lowe and Ben Sparrow
have found over 1.2 billion
acres of formerly dry lands in sub-Saharan Africa, the Mediterranean, central
India, coastal Australia, western South America, northeastern Brazil, northern
Colombia and Venezuela, and northern parts of the boreal forests in Canada and
Russia,” are now covered in forest. The
area is equal to seven states of Texas .
If you have ever driven across Texas you will be
impressed.
And, they continued, “This
increases current estimates of global forest cover by at least 9%,” and "...the
increase in forest cover means forests hold up to 20 percent more carbon
dioxide than previously thought."
We find this astounding as they should be crediting the actual 30%
increase in CO2, most of which is from the decomposition of
limestone, dead plant and animal matter, on land and sea, a few percent from
fossil fuel as documented in the George Woodwell study in the January 1978,
Scientific American. Their errors, likely
inspired by the government grant supporting the study, understate and misplace
credit for natural desert recovery as the insignificant increase in CO2 to man is otherwise to green plants that feed, cloth and support us many ways. If anything this work says that we should
be burning more fossil fuel, not less.
To their credit the Daily
Caller included the statement: "Patrick Michaels, a climate scientist at
the libertarian Cato Institute, said the study reinforces the argument that
man-made carbon dioxide emissions are causing global greening, in contrast to
the global browning predicted by climate models."
And, "Lowe and Sparrow
say climate models predict drylands to expand as human activities cause the
Earth to warm, and argue dryland forests should be conserved to help fight
global warming. But previous studies
suggest the same emissions scientists blame for global warming may also be
increasing vegetation and tree cover through carbon dioxide “fertilization.”
The Daily Caller continued on
a positive path noting: "A 2016
study by an international team of scientists found about half the
Earth’s landmass showed “significant” greening while only four percent was
browning.
“We were able to tie the
greening largely to the fertilizing effect of rising atmospheric CO2 concentration by tasking several computer models to
mimic plant growth observed in the satellite data,” Ranga Myneni, a study
co-author, said in a statement."
Most remarkably the Daily
Caller reported: "That same study
found that while climate models incorrectly
predicted browning to occur in the western U.S. , satellite observations showed
widespread greening in the region."
A 2013 study by Australia’s
Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation found “CO2 fertilization
correlated with an 11 per cent increase in foliage cover from 1982-2010 across
parts of the arid areas studied in Australia, North America, the Middle East
and Africa.”
This is a hopeful sign and it
comes from an Internet publication, not the main-stream media that should be
reporting it instead of bowing to the DC Swamp denizens for money since they
are so good at squeezing it from the ever beaten-down, bruised and battered
taxpayer. The lesson is that there is
hope in spite of our seeing so much yellow, twisted and torn journalism come
from major media regarding a 29 year fraud that is so easily shown to be
false. See

There is more than hope.
