Adrian --
Bernie Sanders just introduced a revolutionary new bill on the floor of the United States Senate: Free tuition at all public colleges and universities in the United States. Today, skyrocketing tuition means graduates can be drowning in debt for decades. The average student debt at public colleges in America is more than $25,000 upon gradation. Other countries are already taking big steps to solve this problem by investing in students. Germany, Denmark, Sweden and more are providing free or inexpensive college. If you support Bernie’s plan to make tuition free at public schools, please add your name. Wealth inequality in this country continues to get worse. That’s why it’s more important than ever to make college affordable for the middle class and to stop saddling out graduates with obscene debt. Please add your name to support Bernie's bill: http://leftaction.com/action/bernie-tuition-bill Thank you, LeftAction

I graduated from high school in 1954 and could put all my stuff in my car, drive to any of five state college campuses in Illinois, show them my high school transcript and register for $50 per semester, plus another $50 in lab fees for my science major and minor. Then, drive around town looking for a rooming house where I could bunk in with other students for $50 a month, get a part-time job for $1.25 an hour and make it. I worked summers at several jobs at once, saved my money and repeated this act for four years and got my degree debt free, but I did have to borrow $400 at the local bank to move to and get started in my first teaching job. They lent it to me on my contract. Since then Federal people have gotten into college education and corrupted it totally. They put 300 kids in an auditorium, a grad student in front of the class. The professor named in the catalog as teaching the course may show up a few times. The grad student teaching the class is more interested in showing off how smart he is than teaching us while students pay $3,000 a semester for him, $900,000 for that class you have to take five each semester! With 30,000 students these schools are taking in $450 million per year and they need Federal help? This is clear, circumstantial, evidence of corruption. Why don't we examine and improve what we have rather than further chip away at the values of our culture. When I was 11 years old I wanted a bicycle and Christmas was coming, but my parents had noted that while many kids had gotten bicycle presents many had been stolen because the kids were too casual with them, not valuing what they had been given. My parents made a deal with me where I could get any bike I wanted as long as I had earned and saved half the money. They would double my money at the point I decided to purchase and it had to be made out of the house. I worked through a long list of little jobs I did for neighbors to get the $15 I needed for the $30 bike I wanted, including a bike locking chain. My bike was not stolen. Why do you persist in working to destroy the values of our young people? You give schools billions in taxpayer money so they grant degrees in "Women's Studies," "Black Studies," "Gay and Lesbian Studies" and so through a long list of nonsense degrees. Clearly, you are bent on destroying America. Adrian Vance |
