Vapor Tiger

I have again made some additions that do not materially change the book, but put a few more pieces in the puzzle. This added a few pages and the new material is about the Clausius-Claperon equation and the fact that what it really means is the inverse of what is said about it.

I have long thought the main reason pro-global warming people made note of Clausius-Claperon is that it uses Calculus and very few people understand the notation.  They are usually impressed with the person telling them of this and that is the point of their using it.

They claim that where water vapor forms clouds it removes the heating effect, but liquid water absorbs more of the spectrum and re-emits infrared actually increasing the effect!

I have included all the physical science needed to understand everything about "global warming," save the "forcing" and "Watts per meter" stuff Jim Hansen talks about as it really does not apply to gases.

This is the full story of "global warming" and I am in debt for Weather Channel founder Roger Coleman's presentation on San Diego TV regarding Roger Revelle, the inventor of the issue and Albert Gore, Junior's Harvard science teacher who gave him a "D" in the one science course he ever took. It is an amazing coincidence

This is all very basic physical science in a step-by-step, understood by anyone with basic high school math skills.  The truth of it is that none of this is hard to learn if it is well-taught and I was long thought a master of that in the days of the educational film business.  Britannica would fly me to their annual new product planning meeting every year and I was the only man at the table without a Ph.D., but I was "Doctor for the day" as my stuff sold better than theirs.  I was not out to demonstrate how damn smart I was. I was there to teach.  The difference is profound.

We have two versions of this book, Kindle and Createspace, both Amazon subsidiaries.  The price is as low as I can make it, but I will send readers of this blog a PDF file, which has all of it and reads like a book on Acrobat or Foxit PDF readers both of which are free. Send your requests to adrianvance@dslextreme.com  Google "Adobe Reader" or "Foxit" for a reader and download.  They will open to you lots of free stuff that is excellent.

"Vapor Tiger" is now 80 pages as I have kept it "lean and clean," uncluttered and clear as it is a fact the most important books in history have been of this kind.  "The Age of Reason" was only 32 pages in first draft and finally 100 after Thomas Paine got out the Bastille and could do some research. Lineas "Systeme Natura" was  48 pages.  "The Prince," by Machiavelli was 78 pages.  If you know the subject you do not need 300 pages and I have lived with this issue since 1972,

If you get the PDF file I would appreciate it if you would go to Amazon.com and post a short review.  Say what you think.  All you have to do is input "Vapor Tiger" to the product search routine and scroll down to the review input location.  I will appreciate it.

Hope you enjoy "Vapor Tiger."

  1. In its' first day this little book has hopped to the top 2.5% of all sales in Kindle and the paperback is not released yet as their production system is delaying final approval. We cannot wait to see what happens with the paperback. Nothing like a hot title!

    1. Adrian, her is the Head of the EPA showing juest how ignorant she is on climate change. Thought you might be amused. http://www.wnd.com/2015/03/sessions-dismantles-epa-chief-for-stunning-ignorance/

  2. You picked an excellent word to get search hits. I don't know about where you live, but here in Western NC, there are "vapor" shops popping up like weeds. I didn't know what it was, so I researched - it is some kind of electronic cigarette with which the user can control the concentration of nicotine. Still obnoxious when a passerby blows this "vapor" into your face while walking down the street, it is possibly less dangerous than second-hand smoke. I am seeing the increase in usage every time I go into town. Congratulations on your latest production - looking forward to reading the paper version.

    1. I had not thought of the electronic cigarette, but when I heard John Campbell telling the Roger Revelle story, and researched that, it popped us the perfect title. It certainly seems to be working. I will gladly send you a PDF file for a request even though I dig up your email address or it may be handy in one of my accounts as Google seems to record everything, but just give me a shot and I'll zap one to you.

  3. Jerry,
Yes, "Vapor" or "e-Cigs are better for you. I've become a distributor of them (not the Vuse or Blues). My wife finally quit smoking cigarettes once she started "vaping." She started out at the 18mg nicotine level and is now down to mostly 0, yet does mix a 0 and 6mg to get a 3mg nicotine level. Only 4-ingredients - Proly Glycol, Vegetable Glycerin, artificial sweeteners - All FDA approved for consumption, which you eat, breath, and inhale everyday - the last ingredient being nicotine, (which you can only get FDA approved with a Doctors prescription); however it is manufactured in the same manner as the FDA approved version. The liquids I sell come from an ISO 9000 approved facility in Georgia. Of course, the equipment I get from China. ((Sorry for some miss-spelling. Hope this "mini" explanation helps.)) There are some safety issues, most to do with children. Yet if handled, and stored, properly it shouldn't be a big issue. The manufacturers are working on the safe issues. The "Big Tobacco" companies are having a fit and are pressuring the FDA to bring the 3-billion dollar industry under control, ass they are not controlled by a "sin" tax. But that will change as our, and other, government will find another way into peoples pocket books.

  4. Sorry about that - but anyone I can talk off of cigarettes - the better. If I could get them to stop completely - that would be even better, then I could go out of business.

    1. I left it up as what you say here is important information. I may do a piece on the "e-cig" thing and draw from this.

I smoked lightly from age 16 to 28 when the second Surgeon General's report came out and it took me a year to quit. I had to go through cigars, which you do not inhale and a pipe, that made me sick to my stomach to finally get rid of it. I have read that tobacco is more addictive than Heroin so we are dealing with a real "monkey."

    2. Hah! I gave up instantly back in 1979 when the tax on cigarettes went up without warning or explanation. Lost my temper. Worked a treat.

  5. Back on topic (and thanks, Wayne) - I've read the entire book, twice, posted a review on Amazon, and I still have the same question I've been posing. The book is filled with science and history, all independently verifiable, and yet, we still keep seeing the same remarks in mainstream "news" releases, claiming there is science behind the anthropogenic global warming claims, the debate is over (what debate), and the so-called "deniers" are a bunch of crackpots who are out to destroy the planet for short-term greed. I know, I'm speaking to the choir here, but my question is, why don't the scientific explanations as Adrian has clearly presented in Vapor Tiger get more exposure? I suspect that if there is actually any science involved in the AGW claims, it is not being presented because those who would present it assume the public couldn't understand it and they don't understand it themselves, resorting to snide remarks and quipping insults instead of clearly presenting their side of the story. It is almost as though when Al Gore's movie came out, that decided the issue forever. It comes down to the same kind of arguments that have been going on with the Creationists vs the Evolutionists, in which science is ridiculed..."it's only a theory."

Anyway, thanks Adrian for setting this record straight, I hope somehow this reaches the hands of those who have some power.

    1. The book is getting around and I too have great hope for it as a force in ridding us of this nonsense.

The answer to the longevity of this lie is money and power. The forces of darkness have gotten over $300 billion in grants, a new bureau, Goddard Institute of Space Sciences, Jim Hansen, Prop., thousands of articles published, Ph.D.s awarded an on through the whole sad story. It has developed a life of its' own.

The only ways I see out are for a revolt of the older, wiser scientists and educators, a total economic collapse or a late night comedian who makes a crusade of it. Don't laugh, these people have enormous effect.

It is possible the real backfire will come from Europe as they have an older, more elaborate scientific tradition and constrained economics, i.e. they cannot afford much nonsense. They could rebel in a way that could end it and that is probably the most likely happy ending.

  6. Hi, Adrian. I purchased the kindle version from Amazon UK. Now on my third reading and trying to follow through the math in detail. My schooling ended in 1956 so I am a bit rusty. :-) On reading your explanation of the Le Chatelier Principal it looks to me that the solution for 'D' (Loc 338) is inverted. But a more involved solution for 'H2O gas' in a similar equation (Loc 385) is correct.
Much satisfaction from reading your little book. Thanks.

    1. If you divide through both sides by "A" and "B," then multiply both sides by "D" and unit cancel that is what you get by the algebraic procedure I was taught.

  7. Adrian, I read your book. very informative but above my ability to fully comprehend, science-wise. One question. I was getting into a discussion about feedbacks online with an AGW nutjob and he was adamant that water vapor as greenhouse gas does not cause warming but cooling. what are your thoughts on this question?

  8. I deal with that in the chapter on Le Chatelier where I note that an increase in CO2 will cause a reduction in water vapor and you see the effect when a CO2 fire extinguisher is used as it causes great white clouds which people attribute to CO2, but they are actually water vapor caused to precipitate. Where water vapor is a better absorber of IR energy from sunlight the heating effect is reduced and cooling would result if CO2 were greatly increased.
