The Barry Farber Show

Barry and I did another segment of our "Unexplained" project on a subject that is near and dear to my heart having spent some time on the high seas during the seven years a major part of my business was in SCUBA diving and underwater photography for the publishing and film businesses as well as doing features for SKIN DIVER magazine, much of it in the Bermuda Triangle.

The seas are rich with stories of vanishing ships and while I have never seen a rogue wave, one that rises from a calm sea and swallows a vessel in a single gulp, they do exist.  Over 100 cargo carrying vessels vanish from the world's oceans every year, two per week.  These are professionally managed and piloted multi-million Dollar vessels with the latest equipment, but in a blink they vanish!  No cruise ship has yet suffered that fate, but the day is coming.

I have found five ways these waves could form and a sixth way the boats could go down, literally in seconds. We discuss them in this show. I have also developed a concept that would give good warning of these waves, but not deal with the phenomenon that is literally gulping ships from the sea in the Bermuda Triangle.  That is a problem yet to be solved in the world of the unexplained.  (Click on the link.)
