The Cato Institute released an updated 1955 study in 2013 showing welfare benefits pay more than a minimum wage job in 33
states and the District of Columbia
. Even worse, welfare pays more than $15 per hour in 13 states. They found welfare benefits have increased faster than the minimum wage.
Conclusion: It is more profitable to stay home than it is to work.
Hawaii
is the leader, where welfare recipients get $29.13 per hour, or a
$60,590 yearly for doing nothing. Hawaii leads the list:

The median middle class annual income is
now $50,000, down from $54,000 at the beginning of the Obama Recession. Hawaii, DC, and Massachusetts
pay more in welfare than the average working person earns. That is not the end of Federal largesse:
The pension of US
Presidents $180,000 for life. Salary of House/Senate - $174,000 for life!
Pension of Speaker of the House - $223,500
Pension of Majority/Minority Leader - $193,400.
Average Salary of a teacher - $40,065
Average Salary of Soldier in a foreign war - $38,000
Nancy Pelosi will retire as a CongressPerson at
$174,000 Dollars a year for life. She has retired as Speaker at $223,500 a
year. Plus she will receive an additional $193,400 a year as Minority Leader.
That's $590,900 a year for life including free medical which is not
available to us.
Lois Lerner's retirement pay is approximately $150,000 a year from the IRS, but we have no way of knowing what she is getting from the DNC.

That's "Nuts."
ReplyDeleteDon't forget, that when you're on "welfare," you're on "Medicaid" or "Medicare" also.
ReplyDeleteI think you are right on Medicaid, but Medicare you pay for, at least I do....
DeleteIt's a matter of record, but more and more physicians will not take on any new Medicaid patients and are hoping that the old one's will soon drop off. Reason, Medicaid pays only pennies on a dollar and most physicians lose money with such patients.
DeleteMediCare has a similar problem, but it is not nearly as restrictive as MedicAid.
DeleteMost of those states in that list are blue Democrap states. That's obviously their voter base keeping them in power.
ReplyDeleteThis seems to have been taken from a Cato study reported on in Aug 2013. Well, maybe so, but I found a more recent set of statistics (Jul 2014) that says different (http://www.statisticbrain.com/welfare-statistics/). If you divide the above dollar figures by 2080 (40 hours/week times 52 weeks) you'll get an hourly wage, which was probably in the Cato report. The top five numbers listed above show
ReplyDeleteHI @ $29.13, DC @ $24.43, MA @ $24.30, CT @ 21.33, and NY @ 21.01
But the 2014 report has the top five at
HI @ $17.50, AK @ $15.48, MA @ $14.66, CT @ $14.23, and DC @ $13.99
That represents a drop of 40% (HI), 43% (DC), 40% (MA), and 33% (CT) -- NY & AK dismissed because not in both lists.
Does anyone really believe that welfare benefits have dropped by 33% to 43% across each state in one year? I couldn't get the 2013 Cato report in a short time and didn't have time to really hunt for it to verify, while the 2014 report includes data from HHS, Commerce, & Cato, but only shows the top ten.
Which of these do you trust? Either, neither, both? Whatever the actual numbers, who do you suppose seeks part time work when the welfare payment hourly wage equivalent is above $10/hr?
I always wondered how these deadbeats could afford to drive new BMWs, Cadillacs, and Suburbans.
ReplyDeleteBring back the WPA. Opinions?
ReplyDeleteIt would have to be updated in many ways as we no longer do much with hand tools and machine operators have to be trained. but it is a good idea to be explored.
ReplyDeleteGive 1/2 of them them a weedwacker and let them cut the grass on the side of the road. Give 1/4 of them trash bags to pick up litter and give the rest a broom to sweep up. Think of how clean the country would be.
DeleteThe last thing we need is another government agency. This video, explains how ALL of the economic situations (depressions, recessions, economic collapses, taxation, wars, etc.) throughout history, have been orchestrated, as well as why there were "times of plenty". It's long, but it puts all of the links in the chain. If you are a believer in the "gold standard" this will open your eyes to the lies. http://youtu.be/HfpO-WBz_mw
DeleteLong.. you are right, 3-1/2 hours, but I am going to watch it as soon as I have the time, probably this weekend. Thanks. My comment about the WPA: I think the Blue Ridge Parkway, or at least part of it was a WPA program. I understand there were WPA photographers, orchestras, as well as the mundane trash-pickers, as suggested above. From my perspective, there were some long-lasting benefits derived from that program. My point being, why are we, the taxpayers, handing out free money without requiring that the recipients work for it? And I don't mean homeless people in wheelchairs. You bring up expensive cars they drive; whether this is true or anecdotal, I assume your point is we are paying something, getting nothing in return. Why not change that?
DeleteThe reference to expensive cars was NOT anecdotal. All you need to do is go to any government provided housing in your town and look at the vehicles in the parking lots, or when you see a fat black b!tch paying for $500 in groceries with EBT, follow her to her car in the parking lot and see what she drives; these people are not driving inexpensive, basic vehicles. It would be interesting for Adrian to have pointed out if the amounts he provided include just welfare. What about the other benefits that these mooches reap, like EBT, cell phones, utility payments, gas cards, medical, free school meals for their kids, free college, etc.
DeleteI believe the states and counties have to administer all these programs and there are some variables, but I wonder how many of these people are working for cash, dealing drugs, stolen property and so on. But, don't forget where poor people cannot afford to buy a house and they never seem to learn the words "savings account," they are tempted to spend more on cars than they should. Every high school curriculum should include a course, "Personal Economics" with lots of examples and well-written materials as this stuff is not hard to teach.
DeleteWE DO NOT NEED THESE PROGRAMS!!!!!! During the Great Depression, when emergency relief measures were introduced under President Franklin D. Roosevelt, Roosevelt's New Deal focused predominantly on a program of providing work and stimulating the economy through public spending on projects, NOT on cash payment. LBJ further screwed things up with his "Great Society" concept. Prior to this our countries 'poor' were taken care of by their families, religious organizations, and charity work - but NOT with money handouts.
DeleteAdditionally, we have to stop making excuses for why, as you did with, "don't forget where poor people cannot afford to buy a house and they never seem to learn the words "savings account," they are tempted to spend more on cars than they should." Home owner ship is not for everyone because they are unable to handle that responsibility; renting often is better suited to those people. Home economics used to be required, mainly for females, but it is ultimately the parents who are responsible to raise their children with the knowledge of basic finances, as well as morals, respect for others, etiquette, integrity and ethics. Too many people have come to rely on public schooling to teach everything to their children because those parents are too lazy, disinterested, inept, ignorant, uneducated, or dependent themselves.
I would also add that buying expensive cars is more about greed, satisfying their wants, and putting on a facade (bling) than simply being tempted to spend more. It's no different than their attitudes toward cell phones. Why does everyone, especially those who are financially strapped insist on texting, internet, video, or having the latest greatest phone available? Necessity is one thing, but luxury is for those that can AFFORD it and have EARNED it!
DeleteI agree with you completely, so please understand that when reading this: I believe that a lot of the reason these people who are buying expensive phones, electronic equipment and luxury cars, are buying them because they are the targets of marketing campaigns directed specifically to them. It is all a gigantic expansion of the Newport cigarette billboards you can see in every black community in this country: "Alive with Pleasure" - why not a cell phone, an iPad, a 50" TV and a BMW?
DeleteAnd regarding your comment, we don't need these programs, I agree with that as well, but my point was, since they are already in place, I think the recipients of these programs should be made to work for the money.
This is from an email I recently received, purported to have been written by a 21 year old female (believe that if you want, I don't):
PUT ME IN CHARGE . . .
Put me in charge of food stamps. I'd get rid of Lone Star cards; no cash for Ding Dongs or Ho Ho's, just money for 50-pound bags of rice and beans, blocks of cheese and all the powdered milk you can haul away. If you want steak and frozen pizza, then get a job.
Put me in charge of Medicaid. The first thing I'd do is to get women Norplant birth control implants or tubal legations. Then, we'll test recipients for drugs, alcohol, and nicotine. If you want to reproduce or use drugs, alcohol, or smoke, then get a job.
Put me in charge of government housing. Ever live in a military barracks? You will maintain our property in a clean and good state of repair. Your "home" will be subject to inspections anytime and possessions will be inventoried. If you want a plasma TV or Xbox 360, then get a job and your own place.
In addition, you will either present a check stub from a job each week or you will report to a "government" job. It may be cleaning the roadways of trash, painting and repairing public housing, whatever we find for you. We will sell your 22 inch rims and low profile tires and your blasting stereo and speakers and put that money toward the "common good.."
Before you write that I've violated someone's rights, realize that all of the above is voluntary. If you want our money, accept our rules. Before you say that this would be "demeaning" and ruin their "self esteem," consider that it wasn't that long ago that taking someone else's money for doing absolutely nothing was demeaning and lowered self esteem.
If we are expected to pay for other people's mistakes we should at least attempt to make them learn from their bad choices. The current system rewards them for continuing to make bad choices.
AND While you are on Gov't subsistence, you no longer can VOTE! Yes, that is correct. For you to vote would be a conflict of interest. You will voluntarily remove yourself from voting while you are receiving a Gov't welfare check. If you want to vote, then get a job.
If even 30% of our 21 year-olds thought this way, we would have no problems. We can thank our schools for the mindless generations
Deletewe have spawned recently.
Sounds like Hawaii has positioned itself as the best place to be a worthless bum. Is it because their cost of living is so high or do they just want to promote and reward worthlessness. Makes me feel sorry for any hardworking people there that have to support it.
